Today saw us continue our journey towards Lechlade. The dominant feature of the river now is its twistiness, it is forever cutting back on itself. It is fortunate that there are no bridge holes to negotiate with the associated threat of a boat coming the other way.
One bridge of note is named Hart's Footbridge; any association with our Fr André?
The bridge at Newbridge is a fine 13thC stone bridge with pointed arches and it is one of the oldest on the river.
We have moored right outside the Trout Inn at Tadpole Bridge and are booked in for a well deserved evening meal.
Out came the bikes again to explore the nearby village of Bampton, an attractive greystone town where the TV hit Downton Abbey was filmed. The church was featured in the series.
