Hungerford

Early morning starts to try to beat the heat seem to be working so it was a 6:30am rise again today.
Shortly after leaving Crofton we came across this beautiful barge. Just look at the lines. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours' boat on a Sunday!

We were running a bit low on essentials so Dianne visited the local store in Great Bedwyn that even has its own mainline railway station. Whilst chilling out on the back of the boat Keith spotted a graceful Red Kite circling around for it's breakfast. It's probably the one we spotted yesterday but no camera was to hand then.

Hungerford Marsh lock is interesting in two respects. It has a swing bridge half way along the lock that has to be swung before entering. The other is that cows seem to think it's their lock. Pity they don't bring windlasses with them to save us a bit of work!

We are now moored up in Hungerford and were joined shortly after by Pat and Angela on nb Chouette from Mow Cop on the Macclesfield. It turned out that they came down the Bristol Channel the day after us and are also BCF members. We intend having a natter with them after we have been to Evensong at St Lawrence church.
