Caen Flight Conquered

After a mediocre experience in The Three Magpies last night we arose at 6am and were away by 7.
Got into our stride by doing the seven locks at Foxhangers and then mooring up for a cuppa before tacking the 16 locks in the flight. There were a few C&RT volunteers around and we thought our luck was in for a bit of help as we were the only boat waiting to go up at that time. It wasn't to be as they were busy preparing for their wide beam work platform to ascend at the same time. In fact they chased us all the way up so no pressure! Only met four boats coming down so the K&A remains very quiet. In one of the pounds we witnessed a fisherman netting a huge Carp. Quite a sight.

Half way up

After completing the 16 in 3hrs 5mins we were met at the top by Mike Jenkinson who has been on a placement at our church for the last month. A bit late to help out though! lol

The Black Horse beckoned at lock 48 so the three of us has lunch in the garden with magnificent views from whence we came.

We have now risen through 50 locks giving us an elevation of 410ft above sea level. We look forward now to the 15 mile lock free pound.
Very limited moorings travelling away from the top but we managed to squeeze in outside the Bridge Inn at Horton. We were warned by a fellow moorer to expect swarms of horseflies between Pewsey and Bruce tunnel. We shall see.
