We continued up the Ashby canal a few more miles until we found a winding hole for us to turn around in as the clouds were now gathering and the wind was getting up. By the time we had reached the junction with the Coventry canal the rain had started. OK no problem, on with the new Henri Lloyd jacket and up with the umbrella. What umbrella? Couldn't find it anywhere! Casting mind back a few days and neither of us could remember the last time it was used. Oh well, grin and bear it was the message from inside.
By the time we got to Boot Wharf at Nuneaton the rain had stopped for a while so out came the Brompton and Keith cycled off into the distance in search of a replacement. You may ask, why bother if you have a good waterproof? Well a brolly helps keep the rain out of the engine room cockpit and so is seen as an essential. Anyway, 45 minutes later Keith reappeared sporting an umbrella poking out through the neck of his jacket. Been to Poundsaver he said and got one for a quid!
So on we went until we got to the Anchor at Hartshill where a carvery will be had tonight. Mmmnn!!!!
