We have been down the Hatton flight of 21 wide locks before and on one occasion our previous boat was strapped to a working boat whilst we operated the locks. So it makes sense to descend the flight with another boat. After Keith tackled a bit more painting and making the short cruise from our overnight mooring to the top lock we decided to wait for another boat to turn up. The crew behind us went off to the greasy spoon for breakfast and we agreed to pair up with them on their return so we made good use of the time by filling up with water, dumping the rubbish and having a friendly chat with a fellow CART volunteer lock keeper.

We made reasonable progress down the flight bottoming out in 3hrs 5mins.

We moored outside one of our favourite pubs on the system The Cape of Good Hope. This a traditional boaters' pub that serves good grub so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to revisit it. We were not disappointed.
