Today we decided to visit the nearby National Trust property of Baddesley Clinton that is a fine example of a late medieval manor house. Well nearby as the crow flies. To get to it by road or even a canal walk was quite a hike until we discovered a Heart of the Midlands Way that went directly there from the Navigation pub. It is a mixture of brick and stone, entered via a small brick bridge over a moat.
It is little changed since 1633 when Henry Ferrers the Antiquary died. In fact a beam dating back to 1275 still remains on show.
3 pictures of the servants' quarters
The hall has an ornate Elizabethan stone chimney piece, and 15th-C beams.
There is excellent armorial stained glass throughout the building, a tradition started by Henry Ferrers
The dining room
We then visited the nearby church of St Michael
Back across the fields to the boat we cast off at about 3pm aiming to stop short of the 21 locks in the Hatton flight that leads onto the outskirts of Warwick.
Tonight we enjoy the meal aboard that was to have been eaten last night!
Tomorrow Warwick
