Wilting Wiltshire

Respite day today only travelling 6 miles and 7 locks. We are now at the bottom of the Foxhanger flight that sets us up for a really early start in order to attack the 29 locks at Caen Hill. The plan is to ascend these in the relative cool of the morning.
Arriving at the early time of noon, we had a light lunch and took the bus into Devizes.
We visited Devizes Wharf where the Kennet and Avon trust has a museum and shop in a converted warehouse. Dianne spotted a patchwork wall hanging depicting aspects of the K&A made by Urchfont White Horse Quilters. It was presented to the K&A Trust in 1988.
It was too hot to linger inside for long so we sat outside on the veranda in the shade with a cup of Earl Grey. Very British. Above our heads was a pigeon roosting in the rafters looking after its young. There were sparrows dancing in and out of the splits in the roof lining. Luckily the tables were placed either side of the effects of gravity!
We then went on to Wadsworth brewery where we intended to do a tour. Unfortunately we just missed the last one of the day so had to visit the bar.
Back on the bus to the adjacent Tree Magpies pub where we are booked in for a meal this evening and then an early night.
